Can't seem to transfer books from PC to Nook...help please!

    gazeebo

      Hi folks,

I'm new to the Nook scene after having had a Kindle for a while but couldn't miss buying the Nook when I had the chance (great reviews/price etc)

      Anyway, it's a 16gb 9" HD+ with all the usual add ons/extras gubbins...

My question is this...how do I transfer my books from my pc (Acer running Windows Vista) which have been either left over from my Kindle days or weren't used on that particular device. When I attempt to transfer a book in either the epub, mobi pdf or azw3 format to my device it keeps popping up with the following message...'Cannot copy 'booktitle' The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected'

I can easily confirm that it's not been disconnected but the stopped responding bit I can't as easily fathom.

I've tried using Calibre but that comes up with either 'calibre.exe has stopped working' or 'error communicating with device'

Sorry for such a long winded question but any help would be very much appreciated.

      Ta muchly, Gaz

For your Kindle books, your best bet is to download the Kindle app from Google Play and use the app to download them from Amazon. Nook and Kindle are not compatible, so you will need to read the books in the app too.

For the other books, look for a My Documents folder and copy them to that. If you can't get them to work with the Nook library, then you might want to try the Kobo or Aldiko apps.

          Good luck.

I (largely) agree with the advice above, and want to add:

            1. Moon+ Reader Pro is a paid app but well worth the money; I strongly prefer it to Aldiko and similar apps (e.g., Cool Reader, FBReader). That said, I use Moon+ Reader  Pro on my smartphone but don't need it on my NOOK HD; on my NOOK HD, I either read books/comics/graphic novels in the app associated with the bookstore I bought them from or in one of the ereader, document viewer, or library lending apps already installed on my NOOK.
            2. On both my NOOK HD and smartphone, Calibre Companion is my sideload/download destination for ebooks and other documents. If I download ebooks and documents elsewhere, I use ES File Explorer or hook up my devices to my computer to move that content to Calibre Companion, later.
            3. Though I "future-proof" my ebooks and audiobooks by backing them up on my computer (which, in turn, is backed up to another hard drive and to the cloud) and - wherever possible - saving another copy in Calibre (using Alf's tools to strip DRM when importing ebooks) and/or MediaMonkey (an audio-visual  library/file manager program), I consume said content on my NOOK and smartphone via the apps associated with the stores I bought them from.  So, for example, my Audible books are downloaded to my Audible for PC app, backed up in MediaMonkey, catalogued in both MediaMonkey and Calibre, and listened to on my devices via the Audible app.
            4. On my computer, the Calibre library is stored in DropBox, which provides access to all of my Calibre content even when away from my home network. (See #2.)
            5. On my NOOK HD and smartphone, prefer using Calibre Cloud or CalibreBox, to Dropbox, for browsing and downloading content from my Calibre library in the cloud (Again, see #2.)

I hope that's not TMI!  You might find it useful to read these forums at MobileReads:

Thanks guys/gals for your help, I appreciate it loads.

I'm going to attempt to try all of the things considered and I'll get back with whatever has happened (hopefully with good news).

              Thanks again, Gaz
