    Nook Glowlight Plus Problem

    capqb

Picked up the new Glowlight Plus last week. While I'm reading, the Nook repeatedly reverts to the home page, without me touching the screen in any way. Is this a known issue, or do I have a faulty item?

I'm having the same problem. Another problem I am having is it does the same thing when  shelving sideloaded books; when it reverts, the shelved sideloaded books get removed from the shelves.

Further, the  books on shelves aren't sorted in any identifiable manner... not by title, author or most recent. The only place the sorting feature works is in the main library and in sorting of the shelf names.

Make sure you aren't accidentally brushing a finger over the 'n' on the bottom of the NGLP.  It's no longer a physical button, instead it's one of those touch sensitive ones.

No idea on the sideloaded books.

I found a tendency for this to happen in the first ten minutes or so of reading but I haven't had it since I was careful to stay well away from nook button... I wondered if it was connected to capacitive screen, I live in a very low humidity environment and it didn't seem to happen at all when I was travelling

So, I love the design, but I am not sure about the software/execution. I still occasionally get the revert to home screen glitch and I have also found that after reading for a while I cannot page back any longer. I can cure the problem by doing a power off which I guess it doesn't hurt to do every so often, but it's not an issue I have had with any other nook. Finally the battery life seems worse than advertised. With wi-fi off and without doing any reading I am loosing about 3% of battery life a day compared to about 3% a week on the nook simple touch with wifi on. Reading for about half an hour on the glowlight plus drops battery life about 5% with the glow adjusted down compared to about a 2% loss on the glowlight plus ( maybe I read faster and have a brighter screen ?) I have lost as much as 15% in a day with wifi on and no reading on the plus.... Hoping if I do a few cycles of letting the battery power go all the way down to a few percent may help....

That's a little surprising. I'm not seeing anything near that battery drain level. I read for at least half an hour every day and went three weeks a month before I had to recharge. What version of the software do you have? I have Version 45.1.14_user / 4.5.1.43.

Do you have a cover/case? Something I noticed is that the front cover of the case is not very stiff. If you stack stuff up on top of it, it touches the screen, which prevents it from going to sleep. That could drain your battery. I try to make sure nothing is stacked on top of it now.

Same software version, do have a cover but see the light go out at night when it goes to sleep and I don't stack anything on top........

I think I have a dud....now it's not just reverting to the home screen when I am reading, it intermittently will not let me get back to the home screen when I touch the n button And want to go to home screen. When it gets into this state the only cure is to reboot....when it allows me to ....this often takes several tries.....it's done this every time I read for the last couple of days... Maybe it gets into some looping state? In any case it's annoying.....

agarcia, is there a solution for this issue? Cleaned the screen, factory reset, rebooted - nada. If you could help Hypatia1, capqb   and myself we'd be grateful! Or at least point us in the right direction of a solution. Today I am going to the store to see what can be done, but I have a sure feeling that I have a faulty device.

                        Thanks Alex!

The latest upgrade seems to have made the glowlight more robust, have not had as many problems since it installed. The battery life is still poor though, took it to my local store but they told me it was the fact I read a lot even though i get much longer battery life on my other e-ink nooks.....

Well, I exchanged my device - only to have my new one have a defective screen! Going to store to exchange again or get money back.

                                Sigh.

Glad the update works for you! Is the update the one with BN Readouts?

There were two updates to the NGLP, one brought 'readouts', the other more recent update should have added support for ADE encrypted ebooks (though not ADE itself).

I'm no longer with BN, and I feel compelled to advise against the GLP.  They have basically no excuse for why this Nook is so buggy.  They had plenty of time to develop it, even delaying the launch, and nothing in the software is really a new feature just a revamp at best of older features.  Readouts basically replaces the read in store and samples features.  In terms of hardware the only thing that pops about the GLP is the screen.  The drive to go buttonless wasn't needed (the Kobo H2O has a button and is rated the same as the GLP in terms of water resistance).  The metal sheet on the back makes the device slippery.

This is what they gave customers after two years of waiting since the last eink nook.  That Glowlight is, effectively, a better Nook aside from the screen.

Well, having problems again with the revert to home screen issue...... Was there a very recent upgrade? In any case problem goes away for a while if I power device on and off.....

It's sporadic for me...no problems last night. I did wonder if it was triggered by books downloading when they became available or recommendations updating but I have had problem in airplane mode... Maybe it's just I am a heavy user so I see more of the intermittent problems....I also wondered if it's just some books but haven't spotted a pattern but I will make a note of title of next book I have problems with....

Out of curiosity, how humid is it where both of you are?  The sensor may be getting tripped up on local weather conditions since it seems sporadic for both of you.

I've wondered about humidity also - I am in the high desert though I do have a humidifier as part of my hvac system....

I just got a Glowlight plus and have the same issue when I travel with it.  It returns to the Home page without me doing anything.  I think it maybe something about it searching for a Wifi signal.   As that when I am home, it doesn't occur.

                                        I am on version 45.2.22 / 5.5.2.58
