Yes, I'm afraid that isn't a hoax. The NOOK Support Forums will be shutting down soon, but we'll still be around to support your NOOK needs via our help portal and social media channels.

lotta people are going to be upset over this, and convinced B&N is no longer serious about supporting the nook..
I got more help here from the forums than I ever did from the help portal or phone based customer support, and I know other users feel the same.
if you know, may I ask what brought about this decision?
With the Help Forums going away, I wonder how much longer B&N will support Nook at all and when I will loose all of my DRM'd books?
What killed the forum was moving to the "Jive" software. This is just the burial announcement.
While the prior software had its problems (including idiot spammers), it fostered within the Nook owner community, a sense of just that, community.
Jive (with its dumb "points" system), looked juvenile by comparison.

Don't lose them. Go visit Apprentice Alf!
Inevitable, but sad to see it go. I've been here since the heady times of early 2010, when it looked like Nook was going to give Kindle some real competition. Nook was innovative, with the ability to read sideloaded e-books in the standard EPub format including library e-books, free reading of e-books inside a B&N store, and e-book lending. There were promotions with free e-books from major publishers (that was before the Agency Model hit), e-book deals, and -- for those close to a B&N Cafe -- free cookies and brownies.
Back then, the forums were a lively place with many interesting characters, most of us just trying to make the most of our Nooks and to help others to do the same. But nowadays, there's nothing novel about e-books (a little pun there), tablets have pretty much replaced e-readers, and Nook unfortunately lost its momentum and eventually much of its market share.
Farewell to everyone, and thanks for being around. Especially Alex, who came in at a somewhat tumultuous point and has stuck it out for a number of years.
Wow, this is sad. I just don't get how they let things deteriorate and now their "cost-cutting" solution is to get rid of the forums? It seems that B&N has botched the Nook from the beginning. I enjoy my Glowlight(s) and use them constantly.
Wish someone could keep some type of forum up and running but don't know how that would work. Alex has been a big help and I appreciate all the users who have posted good information with the Overdrive problems.
This may be what' coming? https://the-digital-reader.com/2017/09/01/bn-selling-rumors/
well..I was already displeased with some of what I was seeing from b&n's nook support, loosing the forums, the only real decent source of support that isnt 'reading from a script canned responses to all' more or less makes my decision an easy one. I'll be abandoning my nook account and moving fully to nook's competitors, google play books(of which one can ACTUALLY find sales and use coupons at) and kindle(which has the same..gasp!).
the other reason? paying full price for an ebook, and not being able to use those x% off coupon codes they send out from time to time. I dont mind paying for my books, but I'd like to both see the odd sale and use a coupon from time to time. those 'nook devices and nook books and accessories excluded' disclaimers...salt in the wound B&N.
so, it was good while it lasted, but in reference to point 1...without that decent community driven support, its not worth it.
thank you for many years of enjoyment, nook. you will be missed.
gb18 : Is it possible for us who depend on the disappearing forum for all to migrate to another
site; and if so; which one? You and Dean Gibson are the most likely candidate to organize this
as you keep us curent in the ereader world and Dean does the same with the NOOK world.
Hoping to find you all on another ereader site....... Thanks for allyour help in the past,
I don't have the skills, cho. Wish I did! I've listed a couple more forums above. Some of them appear to be active. I've been here since the days of the Nook Color. Gonna miss it.
I can be found on MobileRead under this same user name, although I'm not in the Nook section much.
I have looked at MobileRead and I just bookmarked the others listed above, thanks gb18 for those .
I am working on getting Calibre installed this weekend and fixing all my books so I don't lose them in case they spring something on us after the 7th. Have found a lot of help over the last 6 months here, will be sad to see it go. Let's all try to checkin in the other forums and continue sharing info.
